Path of Anarchy

Keywords: Lies, Questioning, Rebellion.

The beliefs of an Anarchist defy reason. Internal contradictions and shifting viewpoints are common, and most commonly define themselves in contrast to others to cause harm and distruct.

Hide Path

Range: Self
Duration: 15 minutes
Type: —
Target: Person
Effect:
For the duration of this miracle, the character is not detected by Discern Chaos or Discern Death miracles.

Discern Path also shows the character as not having a Path.

Mislead Path

Range: Self
Duration: 15 minutes
Type: —
Target: Person
Effect:
The character chooses another Path and for the duration of this miracle all Discern Principle miracles and Discern Path will behave as if he belonged to that Path.

Example: Travesty casts Mislead Path, choosing Justice as the detected Path. For the duration of the miracle, he will glow if targeted by a Discern Order or Discern Life and his Path will be identified as ‘Justice’ if targeted by a Discern Path.

Dark Bless <n>

Range: Touch
Duration: 15 minutes
Type: —
Target: Person
Effect:
For the duration of this miracle, the caster does <n> extra damage with every attack he makes but takes an extra <n> damage from every attack against him.

If the damage from an attack is completely or partially Normal damage, the additional damage is also Normal damage. If the damage is only Power damage, the additional damage is also Power damage, but the amount is halved (rounded down).

Example: Travesty has cast Dark Bless 4 on himself and then attacks an opponent with his Mace, which also has Unholy Strike 3 cast on it. He would normally be doing “Blunt 6, Unholy 3” but with the Dark Bless he is doing “Blunt 10, Unholy 3”.

After a few minutes fighting, Travesty has finished of his opponent, though he in turn is badly injured. He decides that maybe ranged combat would be better and starts using his Unholy Word 2 while hiding behind his Ogre Zombie. With the Dark Bless 4, the damage from each Unholy Word 2 is increased by 2.

Dark Bless cannot be cast on a target with any form of Immunity. For example, it cannot be cast on a Skeleton (Immunity to Sharp), a Ghoul (Immunity to Normal) or an Earth Mage (Immunity to Metal).

The Damage taken by the caster is increased before protections are applied.

Example: Travesty is in 10 armour and has a Dark Bless 4 cast on him. He now hits for 4 more damage and takes 4 more damage when hit. When attacked by a goblin doing 3, he takes a bruise. He’s effectively hitting him for 7.

Example: Travesty is in Dex 5 and has a Dark Bless 10 cast on him. When attacked by a bandit doing 8, he takes 13 damage. He’s effectively hitting him for 18 and he can dodge 5.

Dark Bless and Retribution/Reflection do work together.

Example: Anarchy Priest 1 and Anarchy Priest 2 both cast up Dark Bless 5, Retribution 2 and go at each other with 2H swords (base damage 7).
Anarchy Priest 1 Hits Anarchy Priest 2 in the chest with the sword calling 12.
Anarchy Priest 2 Takes 17, and calls Retribution 17 chest.
Anarchy Priest 1 Takes 22 and calls Retribution 22 chest.
Anarchy Priest 2 Takes 27 and calls Retribution 27 chest.
Anarchy Priest 1 Takes 32 and calls Retribution 32 chest.

Retribution <n>

Range: Self
Duration: 15 minutes
Type: Not Stackable
Target: Person
Effect:
The caster can cause any attack against him to also affect his attacker, up to a maximum of <n> attacks.

The following attacks can be subject to Retribution:

  • Any melee/missile attack that causes direct damage.
  • Any spell/miracle attack that causes direct damage e.g. Ice Dart, Holy Word, Harm etc. Spells/miracles that do not cause direct damage cannot be subject to retribution e.g. Curse, Grip, Freeze etc.

All damage modifiers associated with the attack are subject to retribution i.e. Sharp/Blunt, Normal damage, Power damage, Piercing, Swift etc. except Lethal Strike.

Attached effects, such as Salves or a Ghoul’s Paralysis or a Shadow’s Weakness, are not subject to retribution.

Retribution damage is done to the same location(s) that were targeted in the original attack and the attacker’s defenses reduce this damage as usual. The caster takes damage from the attack as usual.

An attack is counted as a single melee/missile attack or a single spell/miracle. Hence if an Ice Dart is subject to retribution it will affect all locations of the caster/attacker as normal.

The call for this miracle is “Retribution <damage>”. Any retribution must be done within a three seconds of the attack or the chance is lost.
You can still Retribute the attack if you are killed/made unconscious by the attack, but you must do it immediately i.e. no falling over dead, then going “Oh wait, Retribution” and standing up again. Basically, if you’ve made the decision that you’ve died, then it’s too late.

Example: Travesty casts Retribution 3 just before a party of do-gooders attack. During the fight, a Mage casts Holy Word 4 on him (the Vampire disguise once again confusing the party), and as it would be pointless Travesty chooses not to use one of his Retributions.

Next a Half Orc attacks him for “Sharp 12, Fire 4”, hitting him in the Left Leg. Travesty immediately uses one of his Retributions to return the damage (calling “Retribution Sharp 12, Fire 4 Left Leg”).
The Half Orc is wearing Thick Leather Greaves (AC2), Toughness 3 and Dexterity 2, all of which reduce the damage as usual, so he only takes 9 damage.

Next an Archer shoots him with an arrow for “Swift Piercing 6”, hitting him in the chest. Travesty immediately uses another of his Retributions to return the damage (calling “Swift Piercing 6 Chest”).

Retribution targets the attack, not the character making the attack. So for example:

  • You can have Spell Immunity (Ice Dart), hit the enemy with an Ice Dart and ‘no effect’ the Retribution.
  • You cannot ‘no effect’ a Retribution if you have a Death/Chaos Resistance running (unless the original attack would also be stopped by Death/Chaos Resistance).
  • You cannot Spell Immunity (Retribution) and ‘no effect’ all different kinds of attack made through the Retribution.
  • Retribution does not bypass Mirror Image, unless the original spell/miracle/attack also bypasses Mirror Image i.e. The target of the Retribution is treated as having the original spell/miracle cast directly at him.

Note, only one Retribution miracle of any level can be cast on a character at any one time and the miracle is still in effect even after it has been reduced to 0. To cast another Retribution before a previous one expires thus requires the original one to be dispelled or cancelled.
